After the announcement in July 2024 of the first-ever merger of two successful higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia – Algebra University and Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences – the initial step in the merger has now been realized.
The institution's official name has been changed to Algebra Bernays University, and the university's new visual identity has been presented. Algebra Bernays University currently has over 2,600 students across 28 study programs, 15,000 participants in adult education programs and more than 230 employees.
The position of Rector of Algebra Bernays University will be held by the current Rector of Algebra University, Assoc. Prof. Mislav Balković, PhD while Assoc. Prof. Damir Jugo, PhD the former Dean of Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences, has been officially appointed President of the Governing Body. He will continue serving as Dean of Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences until the merger is completed. The new name, Algebra Bernays University, symbolizes not only an administrative and organizational change but also a significant step forward in Croatia’s higher education landscape.

Prof. Mislav Balković, PhD, Rector of Algebra Bernays University. He emphasized that this merger paves the way for new interdisciplinary research and enhanced research quality.
President of the Governing Body, Assoc. Prof. Damir Jugo, PhD, highlighted the university's commitment to ensuring that "students receive comprehensive support and the necessary resources to face the challenges of the job market."

The merger of Algebra and Bernays includes launching new study programs and investing in the modernization of scientific and creative-practical infrastructure, such as a new audiovisual studio with professional filming equipment, a state-of-the-art neuromarketing research laboratory, featuring brain activity analysis and DNA analysis tools, advanced data analysis tools, enhanced digital content production and simulation of complex communication scenarios tools that will significantly enhance the Croatian education sector.
The merger of these two modern and forward-thinking institutions will foster the coexistence of cutting-edge technology and essential social sciences values, paving the way for interdisciplinary programs such as digital communication, artificial intelligence in social analysis, applied data science, and more.
