After a 5-month pandemic shutdown, the largest cinema exhibitor in Croatia, Blitz-CineStar, will finally reopen its screens to the public on August 20. The decision to reopen has been made in compliance with the Croatian Institute of Public Health and Ministry of Culture and Media, that have prepared, in cooperation with Blitz-CineStar, specific safety recommendations for multiplex cinema operations, thus making the health and safety of its customers and employees a top priority.
This decision is great news for all cinema lovers who have anxiously been awaiting news on the opening date for cinemas since cinema is one of the favorite entertainment leisure time activities and a big part of the culture for all. As the world slowly adjusts to the “new normal,” the audience can once again look forward to going to the movies and new releases that are soon going to be released in CineStar Cinemas.
"We would like to thank the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Institute of Public Health and the Ministry of Culture, and Media for their support and understanding during this entire period of crisis. Between the time of closure and reopening of the cinemas, we used the time to plan and implement all necessary measures for protecting the health of cinema employees and visitors. We have prepared cinemas for visitors in accordance to new standards, we have carried out disinfection, as well as established new hygiene standards and their maintenance, and introduced employees to protective procedures and techniques, so that we are fully prepared for the reopening," said Jadranka Islamović, CEO and Member of the Board at Blitz-CineStar.
Reopening plans include the latest health and safety measures provided by the Croatian Institute of Public Health guidelines for the cinematic industry. Auditorium capacities will be limited and online reservation system and concessions will automatically block sales of one seat between two different groups to maintain proper social distancing throughout the movie. Furthermore, CineStar will take into consideration the schedule of movie screenings by allowing longer gaps between shows, to reduce the number of potential visitors in lobbies where the recommended physical distance is 1,5 meters.
Another novelty introduced in CineStar Cinemas at the reopening will be a faster and safer concession order of menus that visitors will now be able to purchase online while buying tickets. Menus will include different choices with popcorn, nachos, a soft-drink and/or chocolates. Menus purchased online can be picked up on the concessions prior to the start of the movie.
