50,000 employees surveyed: Most satisfied with interpersonal relationships, least satisfied with development opportunities

SELECTIO Group, Croatia's leading HR consulting and talent search group, conducted an organizational climate and employee engagement survey involving 50,000 employees from some of the country's largest employers.

Employees in Croatia are generally satisfied with relationships with colleagues and supervisors

The survey revealed that companies conducting regular assessments, followed by analysis and action plans, experience 15% lower absenteeism and 20% lower employee turnover. Moreover, these organizations achieve a 10-15% increase in productivity and a 25% boost in innovation within the department.

The findings also indicate that employees seek workplaces offering a sense of purpose, opportunities for development, and job security. “These results provide profound insights into how employees perceive their workplace, what motivates them, and where key opportunities for improvement lie. Croatia's work culture emphasizes interpersonal relationships, with employees valuing support, team spirit, and connections with colleagues and supervisors. This explains why the highest satisfaction levels were recorded in these areas. On the other hand, communication, career development, and compensation were rated the lowest, highlighting the need for targeted improvements in these often-overlooked areas,” explained Erna Tomiša, Senior People and Culture Consultant at SELECTIO Group.

Climate and engagement surveys are ineffective without follow-up action plans

According to SELECTIO Group’s research, companies implementing follow-up activities after climate and engagement surveys see an average 10% annual increase in employee satisfaction. The most successful outcomes are observed in organizations conducting comprehensive yearly surveys alongside quarterly or semi-annual Pulse Check surveys to monitor progress toward improvement initiatives.
