Applications for the 2025 WIPO Global Awards, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), are open from January 15 to March 31. Awards are granted to outstanding startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that utilize intellectual property (IP) to drive economic growth and societal impact. The competition is open to businesses in at least one of WIPO’s member states.
Who Can Apply?
Startups (including university spinouts) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are eligible to apply. Applications are welcome from businesses across all sectors—technology, fashion, healthcare, agriculture, design, and more—that leverage any form of IP (copyrights, trademarks, patents, and geographical indications) to enhance their performance and overall growth.
One key requirement for SMEs to apply is ownership of at least one registered/protected IP right. Startups and university spinouts must have filed at least one application for the registration/protection of an IP right and/or own at least one registered/protected IP right.
